Story

The celebrated astrophysicist Siebren de Kuiper's life changed forever when a failed experiment gave him the ability to control gravity but splintered his mind. Now, he struggles to maintain his connection to reality, unaware that Talon is manipulating him to their own ends.

Scientist

Scientist

De Kuiper was considered a pioneer in his field. His life's work involved devising a way to harness the power of gravity. Equally known for his groundbreaking research and eccentric personality, he conducted most of his studies from his lab in The Hague. Believing that he was close to achieving his goal, he performed his most important experiment on an international space station. But something went wrong, triggering the brief formation of a black hole. De Kuiper was only exposed to its power for a moment, but he suffered serious psychological damage. The area around him began to experience strange fluctuations in gravity, peaking and dropping in time with his reactions. He had to be evacuated immediately.

Subject sigma

Subject sigma

Upon returning to Earth, De Kuiper was quarantined in a secret government facility. Between his ravings about the patterns of the universe, the nonlinear nature of time, and the gravitic anomalies happening around him, he was deemed unsafe and detained for years under the name "Subject Sigma." Isolated and unable to control his powers, De Kuiper retreated into his own mind. He thought he would never see the outside world again. When Talon discovered De Kuiper's existence, they sent Reaper, Sombra, and ultimately, Widowmaker, to infiltrate the facility and break him out, planning to use his brilliance and research to further their plans. In their custody, De Kuiper slowly gained control of his powers. Now, gravity moved according to his will, and he was closer than ever to achieving his life's goal. But the same experiment that had opened his mind had also fractured it, and he struggled to keep the pieces together. De Kuiper continues to develop his powers in hopes of unlocking the secrets of the universe, unaware that Talon is using both him and his research.

Reign of talon

Reign of talon

With Talon under Vendetta’s rule, Sigma has been thrown into containment. Per Vendetta, he is no human, but a volatile weapon—and should be treated as such. Until she has need of such a tool, Sigma remains confined, holding out hope that one day someone might free him from this torment.

Sigma Strategy Guide

Sigma Tips

  1. 1Kinetic Grasp absorbs projectiles and converts them to shields — use it aggressively against Junkrat, Pharah, and Echo whose kits are nearly all projectile-based.
  2. 2Gravitic Flux (ultimate) suspends enemies mid-air — combo it with Mei Blizzard or Zarya Graviton Surge by pre-coordinating who initiates and who follows up.
  3. 3Experimental Barrier can be raised or lowered freely; elevate it to block high-ground angles or lower it to deny corridor crossings at ground level.
  4. 4Hyperspheres bounce twice off surfaces — learn to angle them around corners to hit enemies who think they're safely sheltering out of direct line of sight.

Tank Overview

Tanks lead by contesting space the rest of the team can't take alone — not by standing still and soaking damage as a wall for allies to hide behind. Pressuring a dangerous angle forces the enemy to respect the threat you represent, which is what actually lets your damage and support operate safely. Tanks generally have large health pools and strong defensive tools, but those exist to let you take space, not to make you a stationary shield. Reading which angle you can hold — and when to pull out — matters far more than constant voice comms with your supports, most of whom are busy triaging the fight rather than actively topping you up.

Positioning

Where you position depends heavily on the tank and the matchup, not a fixed front-to-back rule. Brawl tanks like Reinhardt want to hold a specific angle and pressure it — not simply stand between the enemy and your team. Against dive- or poke-heavy compositions (Orisa, Ramattra, mobile flankers), playing straight front-to-back plays into their strengths and loses on most maps. Track your team's position and disengage before you're isolated, but don't expect your supports to keep you topped up mid-fight — with healing output reduced across the board, most tanks are meant to spend their HP and cooldowns on a trade and recover between fights, not during them.

Strengths

  • +Large health pools and defensive cooldowns that let you contest space other roles can't survive in
  • +Creates space and draws focus fire away from squishier teammates
  • +Ultimate abilities can decisively swing team fights
  • +Presence alone forces the enemy team to play around you, buying space and time for your team

Weaknesses

  • Healing is mostly meant to top you up between fights, not during them — expecting emergency heals mid-fight wastes your supports' resources
  • Overextending solo leads to quick elimination
  • Committing to the wrong angle can cost your HP and cooldowns and swing the fight against your team
  • High-mobility damage heroes can outmaneuver slow tanks
